See more PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT

As many of you will be aware, Hornby recently released details of their upcoming items for this year. We thought it an ample opportunity for the guys in the shop to share with you a few of the items they were looking forward to. So, with cup of tea in hand, time to peruse the catalogue and compile that wish list.

R30093 - Trains on Film Titfield Thunderbolt Train Pack

This is the perfect representation of the much-loved Ealing comedy from 1953. The film has many famous faces in it along with the equally famous locomotive of the film’s title. I can’t wait to recreate one of my favourite films at home.

R3961 Isle of Wight Central Railway Terrier Train Pack

Another train pack this time, although one a bit less fictitious. I’m looking forward to this one as well as it will be used as an excuse for a small layout to go with it!

R1281M Red Rover Analogue Train Set

It's nice to see the return of a modern image train set, a chance for young and old to model the trains that they see running today.

R1282M Mallard Record Breaker Analogue Train Set

The return of probably the most famous steam locomotive, in early British Rail Express Blue along with a rake of three matching Crimson and Cream coaches.

R30203 Coca-Cola Class 121

Why not create your own seaside special? This bubble car has its own sponsorship, so no repainting required.

For me, the best thing this year is the expansion of the Railroad range of locos, with a nice selection of former Lima models in BR blue period liveries.

R30185 Class 37 BR Large Logo

As a Southern Region inhabitant, the class 37 is rather out of my normal stomping grounds, but large logo blue has always looked lovely on these.

R30180 Class 37 Intercity Swallow

Again more suited to other regions, but they always looked rather sleek in this livery.

R30191 Class 40 BR Departmental Blue

Once again not remotely Southern, but I never had a blue version when I was a kid.

R30187 Class 47 Network Southeast

This is more like it! My collection only includes the earlier livery variant, so this fills a gap nicely.

R30179 Class 47 BR Large Logo Blue

A brilliant roster filler – I saw most of these during many, many trips around London. A favourite spotting trip was up to Willesden depot on the tube – after spotting all the electric stock stabled there, Old Oak Common Depot was literally a couple of hundred yards down the road and it was always crawling with these.

R40296, R40298, R40300, R40302 Somerset and Dorset Coaches

Our old model railway club had a huge S&D layout – if only something like these had been available thirty years ago, we may have modelled the earlier period from time to time.

R60032 - Pedigree Prams Conflat

An old favourite of many - the old dear had a rake of about 20 of these...

R7362, R7363, R7364, R7365, R7366 South Eastern Buildings

The SECR did cross over into Central section territory (at Redhill for example), so I could well find a use for these.
