JULIAN LILLEY looks at various new products and ideas from Noch.
Noch is now probably the largest producer of model railway scenic and figure accessories in the world. For more information on the history and our visit to their factory, please read the RIGHT LINES article, "A Visit to Noch".
I will start with some great new figure ranges which Noch have been producing for over 20 years across most of the popular Model Railway scales.
Starting with the ever increasingly popular O scale, they have added to their bestselling N17810 Steam Engine Drivers and N17820 Shunters, which will help bring extra life to your larger scale layout normally only seen in OO/HO and N scale.
N17830 Construction Workers
N17840 Farmers
N17843 Lumberjacks
N17841 Tractor Drivers
They are also producing the initial O scale range such as the engine drivers in Gauge 1 this year.

This is where Noch really specialise and this year they are introducing some great new editions.
I was particularly taken by their themed figure sets. The N16215 "In the Garden" could be set on nearly all British Outline or Continental Layouts.

Others in the range are:
As to smaller sets of six figures 18 new ranges are being introduced including:
N15897 Bicycle Racers
N15481 Pedestrians
N15849 Bathers
N15854 Water Sports
N15511 Same-Sex Couples
And, to add some sound to your layout, they have introduced three more sound scenes, the first two being suitable on any British layout and the third would bring any alpine scene to life.
Due to the compact design the unit can be installed near the actual scene and can be connected to a 16v transformer, such as the GMC-WM1.
N12861 Wedding Sound Scene
N12852 Guard Dogs Sound Scene
N12821 Alpine Horn Blowers Sound Scene
It was good to see that Noch have added some realistic Nordic fir and Spruce trees to their already extensive range of trees and bushes. Each species comes in three sizes:
When the CEO of Noch visited the UK 2 years ago, we advised him of various gaps in the HO/OO UK market.
One of which was a good flexible easy to use stone wall system, which they have now launched this year.
Available in four styles Granite - N58280, Sandstone - N58282, Basalt - N58281, and Natural Stone - N58283. Wall heights vary between 14mm and 20mm depending on the type, (have you ever seen walls all the same height?), and all just over a metre long.
They can be shaped using hot water or hot air from a hair drier and the perfect natural finish can be achieved with white or grey acrylic paint using a dry wipe technique. If you're interested in more on this technique, please read Mark's article on how he adds weathering to brickwork, whilst making a platform for his goods yard.
I can see this being very popular when they are released in May / June, 2020.
